Geschiedenis
Luisa Paz was born in Santiago del Estero on August 19, 1963, where she lived until the end of 1983. That year, she moved to Buenos Aires, where she remained until 1996. Her years in Buenos Aires coincided with a period she describes as one of the harshest and most violent periods of repression experienced by travesti and transgender people, within a broader context of persecution and institutional violence.
In 1996, she returned to Santiago del Estero and moved back in with her mother. Drawing on her own experiences and the collective organizing of travesti and transgender communities, she became involved in activism with the Asociación de Travestis, Transexuales y Transgéneros de Argentina (ATTTA) in 2000, an organization with which she has remained involved ever since.
Her activism has focused on defending the rights of travesti and transgender people and on developing strategies to address the violence and violations of rights that have historically affected these communities. Her trajectory connects her local experience in Santiago del Estero with broader processes of travesti-trans organizing and activism at the national level.
She currently works at the Ministry of Women, Genders and Diversity, within the Coordination Office for the Prevention and Response to Institutional Violence. In this capacity, she continues to carry out work related to preventing and addressing situations of institutional violence, continuing a path of activism that began with her involvement in the travesti-trans movement in 2000.
