Patricia Rasmussen fue una militante por los derechos de las personas LGBT y una referente del activismo travesti y trans en Mar del Plata. Durante su trayectoria participó en la Red de Personas Viviendo con VIH, donde desarrolló tareas de promoción del testeo, prevención y capacitación, con especial atención a las necesidades de la comunidad travesti y trans.
En 1996 conoció a Belén Correa durante un verano en Mar del Plata. Por entonces, la Asociación de Travestis, Transexuales y Transgéneros de Argentina (ATTTA), creada en 1993, tenía su principal base de organización en Buenos Aires. A partir de ese encuentro, Patricia participó de la apertura de la primera sede de ATTTA fuera de la ciudad de Buenos Aires, en Mar del Plata, experiencia que contribuyó posteriormente a pensar la organización en una dimensión nacional. Con el tiempo se convirtió en coordinadora de ATTTA en esa ciudad.
Su militancia estuvo vinculada especialmente al acceso a la salud de las personas travestis y trans. Trabajó para promover el acercamiento de profesionales y servicios sanitarios a la comunidad, impulsando espacios de atención y prevención frente a las dificultades de acceso que atravesaban muchas compañeras. También sostuvo tareas de sensibilización y formación en torno al VIH, el testeo y las estrategias de prevención.
Durante los últimos años de su vida se dedicó de tiempo completo al trabajo comunitario y a la militancia. En ese período continuó desarrollando acciones de acompañamiento y promoción de derechos, articulando las demandas de la comunidad travesti y trans con los espacios de salud y las organizaciones sociales.
Patricia compartió durante más de una década su vida con Florencio, quien fue su compañero y una persona significativa en su recorrido afectivo. En distintos momentos de su vida atravesó dificultades vinculadas al consumo de alcohol, y contó con su acompañamiento para afrontarlas.
Patricia Rasmussen murió en febrero de 2020, a los 55 años. Su recorrido forma parte de la historia de organización del movimiento travesti y trans en Mar del Plata, particularmente de los procesos de construcción colectiva orientados al acceso a la salud, la prevención del VIH y la ampliación de derechos.
Patricia Rasmussen was an activist for LGBT rights and a prominent figure in the travesti and trans movement in Mar del Plata. Throughout her life, she was involved with the Network of People Living with HIV, where she worked to promote HIV testing, prevention, and community education, with particular attention to the needs of the travesti and trans community.
In 1996, she met Belén Correa during the summer in Mar del Plata. At the time, the Association of Travestis, Transsexuals and Transgender People of Argentina (ATTTA), founded in 1993, was primarily based in Buenos Aires. Following their meeting, Patricia became involved in establishing ATTTA’s first branch outside the city of Buenos Aires, in Mar del Plata. This initiative later contributed to the organization’s development as a nationwide network. Patricia eventually became ATTTA’s coordinator in Mar del Plata.
Her activism focused particularly on access to healthcare for travesti and trans people. She worked to bring healthcare professionals and services closer to the community, promoting spaces for medical care and prevention in response to the barriers many travesti and trans people faced in accessing healthcare. She also carried out awareness-raising and educational activities related to HIV, testing, and prevention strategies.
During the final years of her life, Patricia devoted herself full-time to community work and activism. She continued to develop initiatives focused on support and the promotion of rights, connecting the needs and demands of the travesti and trans community with healthcare services and social organizations.
For more than a decade, Patricia shared her life with Florencio, her partner and an important figure in her emotional life. At different points in her life, she experienced difficulties related to alcohol use and received his support as she navigated them.
Patricia Rasmussen died in February 2020 at the age of 55. Her life and activism form part of the history of travesti and trans organizing in Mar del Plata, particularly the collective efforts to improve access to healthcare, promote HIV prevention, and advance the rights of travesti and trans people.
